Black chick pea chaat

Being from Mumbai, you CANT turn your back to the chaats. They might not be very healthy, but they are definately worth giving up your diet and health foods for! But with a strong will, I did manage to find a way out. Here is a healthy and yet very tasty version of a typical Mumbai chaat.

Ingredients

1 cup boiled black chick peas, 1 chopped spring onion, 1 chopped tomato, ½ cup savory boondi (optional), 2 tablespoons fine chopped coriander, ½ tablespoon chaat masala, ¼ tablespoon garam masala, ¼ tablespoon red chilli powder, ¼ tablespoon ginger powder, ½ tablespoon dried or fresh mint, ½ tablespoon mixed cumin-coriander powder, ½ tablespoon tamarind paste, 1 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoons thick yogurt, sev and lime juice to garnish, salt to taste

 

Method

  1. Add the yogurt, tamarind paste and sugar to a bowl and mix well to unify the ingredients. Add water as required to get a dressing consistency.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients in another big bowl and mix well. Remove the contents in a serving plate.
  3. Garnish with the yogurt dressing.
  4. Give it a good squeeze of lime juice and sprinkle some sev on the top before serving

 

Try a tip

Add in some chilli flavour cashews to get a nice nutty flavour in the dish. Try this dish with sprouted black chick peas for a healthier option

 

Note

You can easily substitute the black chick peas with red kidney beans in this recipe.
